Taize Prayer originates from the Taize Community in France; an ecumenical community of monks that welcome thousands of visitors, mostly young people, to share in its life and worship each year. The style of prayer is quiet and reflective, particularly characterised by the visual focus with icons and candles, and the distinctive sung chants. These are simple, short chants that are sung over several times allowing the words to sink in and for our spirits to be carried along with the worship and brought into God’s presence. There are also periods of silence. Many people are moved by the peaceful and reverent atmosphere.
