Habitat hunters

This term, the Year 2 children at Sandygate have been completing their topic ‘habitat hunters’. As part of the learning in this topic, the children have been exploring the habitats and micro-habitats of various bugs and animals.

The highlight of the topic was the recent excellent day trip to visit Mop End Field Studies Centre. The day was led by some very knowledgeable specialist teachers who taught the children lots of fascinating facts about mini-beasts. The exploring also involved digging through the woods, looking under logs and rummaging through leaves to find a variety of different creatures.

The mini-beasts that were found during a pond dipping session deserved even closer examination. Once caught, the creatures were put in pots and examined under a microscope. The children were then able to identify and classify them.
